Judges 6 Speaking with God

Judges 6( sorry I had put 7 by accident! ) Gideon

Gideon was not called a Judged but he was a valiant warrior. The Angel of the Lord went to a prophet and he spoke to the people of Israel. Then an Angel of the Lord went to speak to Gideon.

This story really spoke to me. Gideon’s experience with the Angel of the Lord and with God is a great example to us all.

In verses 12-17; Gideon was a young man, the youngest in his family, from what he says the least of those who lived in Manessah. He spoke as though he was saying, you have the wrong guy, Lord. But this is what I love about God, and this is what we all need to remember. Verse 16, “ But the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat Midian as one man.”
Gideon understanding full well what it was that the Lord was saying to him as he makes a request. Verse 17, “ So Gideon said to Him, “ if now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that It is You who speak with me.”

So, Gideon gets a visit from the Angel of the Lord and He tells him that he is the one chosen to save Israel and Gideon states the facts of who he really is and then asks, why would the Lord chose me? The Lord answers and says I will go with you. Then Gideon realizes he just might be sitting and talking with an Angel of the Lord and he makes a request to be sure that he really is and so he asks if it would be possible to bring out an offering. When he does this the offering is received and the Angel of the Lord departs.

Ladies, What can we learn from Gideon’s experience? I believe there is a lot to glean from this but one thing that really spoke to me was that Gideon didn’t just immediately say YES and he didn’t just immediately accept that what he was hearing was from the Lord. He needed to be sure what he was hearing was truly from the Lord. He really did ask that he be able to seek God out and see whether it was Him or not. In Verses 36-40. Gideon begins to process what God is asking and now he wants to make certain it is who is speaking with him.

Ever set that fleece out? Ever felt uncertain of the task God has set before you? I have !

One of the things I really appreciate about Gideon was that he was not about trying to be the VALIANT WARRIOR. He may have had those qualities but he really just wanted to do what the Lord his God was asking and to know that he wasn’t going to be going it alone. He understood the need to have God with him.

Today, as you start your day, my prayer is that you will begin with some time alone with your Savior and that you will seek Him in every decision as you follow Him.

Lord, I pray that as we start our day that we will keep our eyes on You. That as we seek to accomplish all that You have for us that we will take time to be still and hear all we need to hear from you. That we would not walk out in our own strength but to stop and humble ourselves before You Lord and allow you to give us the Victory in the things You call us to do.

I pray this in your name,
The Name of Jesus
Amen……………

I do believe there is a lesson we need to glean from Gideon’s experience but it isn’t the Fleece experience. But this is something we should glean; It is being still and sitting before our Lord and seeking Him when we know He is asking us to do something new. Gideon set this example and
