Judges 7
Gideon sets the example of what Faith is when we are faced with the impossible.
In Judges 6 we saw how Gideon stepped out in Faith and accepted the call to lead Israel to battle against a great foe. Gideon gathers the army and the story unfolds. For me, this chapter is really a great example to us all. We all need to be reminded of just how awesome our God is!
Gideon shows us by example what it means to Trust in God when He calls us to a task.
Judges 7:2 " And the Lord said to Gideon, 'the people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands, lest Israel become boastful, saying, 'My own power has delivered me.' Now therefore, come , proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him return and depart form Mount Gilead.' so 22,000 people returned, but 10,000 remained."
Can you imagine how much trust that would have taken for Gideon to stand there before the people and tell them if you are afraid, you should return to the camp we won't need you.
Once when we were first serving in East Asia many years ago. We had a short term team come to do some work in our area. We were traveling on a narrow road and the path was not safe to travel. We still had 3 hours by car, it would take 7-8 hours by foot. We had to make the decision to abandon the bus and travel by foot. At that point some were very concerned about the trek that was before us. However, we knew the task God called us to was important so we stepped out in Faith and trusted the Lord to care of us.
I really believe this is how Gideon felt and he had confidence in His God to do as He said. So, Ladies, is there something in your life that you haven't fully trusted the Lord in yet. Is there something that you know you should do but just haven't stepped out in faith and TRUSTED that He will do as He said.
This doesn't just happen once but twice, First when those who were fearful were separated out and then when the men went down to the water. 300 men was all that was left for a battle against a great foe of Israel.
Faith was necessary!
Trust was a must!
but what lies next is the one thing that binded them together and brought VICTORY to Israel!
Gideon obeys even when it seems a strange request.
Obedience!
When it came to the time and the hour to fulfill the purpose of Gideon, he obeyed the Voice of the Lord, his God.
Judges 7:9-16
After he heard the account of the vision and then heard the interpretation, Gideon, bowed and worshiped !
Gideon led the 300 men into the camp of the Midian's and just before they left this is what the men said, " A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!" Judges 7:20
that day VICTORY was in the hands of Israel because of the Faith, Trust and Obedience of the one God called to lead the people.
I just pray that as you begin this week that you will have FAITH in Your Lord and Savior and in what He calls you to do. TRUST Him that if He Calls, He'll provide, and what He provides will be sufficient! Then to step out in OBEDIENCE.
Lord, I thank you for how so many of your faithful servants set the example for us. Thank you for how you do lead us to some pretty amazing tasks that at first glance seem just impossible. But Lord we know that with you all things are possible! Thank you for how you use us, for your faithfulness, that you are trustworthy and that in you we have victory! Today, help us to walk in confidence in the things you call us too!
I pray this in your name,
The Name of Jesus!
amen..................
