We know.....

1 John 5:13-21 “So that You may Know”

John writes throughout the book of 1 John in such a personal way. He really is writing to believers to make certain that they will be dealing with some serious issues and he wants to prepare them so that they won’t be drawn away.

Today, I want to review what John wrote:
Look back over 1 John and write out all of the reasons for John writing 1 John. Most of the time he started with: I started with the first one you finish!
“ I am writing to you”
1:4- “ and these things we write so that our joy may be made complete”
2:1
2:12
2:13
2:14
2:12
2:26
5:13

These are the issues that John wrote to the believers he was addressing in this Letter. How might you or I learn from this?

What things did the Lord teach you about and how might you share this with others around you?

John used the phrase : “ so that you may know” take a few minutes and just write out from each chapter the things John wanted us to know as believers. Then write out “how I can know it”
Take some time to do each chapter –

I will do Chapter 5 :

5:2 -“ We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey His commandments”.
5:13- “I write this to you who believe in the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”
5:14-“ and we can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will.”
5:15- “ we can be sure that he will give us what we ask for.”
5:18 – “ we know that those who have become part of God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot get his hands on them.”
5:19- “ we know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the power and control of the evil one. “
5:20 – “ we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the True God. And now we are in God because we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.”

As we close 1 John here are a few things to think about. This from a book on Inductive Bible study, by Kay Arthur.

1. “What have you learned about sin from 1 John? Do you practice Sin or Righteousness?
2. Do you love the things of the world? Are you caught up in the pride of life, in boasting, or in desiring whatever your eyes see?
3. According to 1 John 3, what are you to do when your heart condemns you?
4. Does your belief about Jesus Christ match what 1 John teaches about Him?”

Ladies, I pray that as you study the Word that you will be changed and that you will grow deeper in your Faith. We will begin 2 John on Tuesday, Feb. 14th.

I’ll be trying to refresh my Inductive bible study skills. ☺ I hope you will enjoy digging a bit deeper into the Word.

Lord, May You teach us how to walk according to Your purpose and Plan. May we be faithful in all that you lead us to do. Lord I do pray that you give us opportunities to share what we learn each day with others who may have never heard about you. Lord, give us opportunities to serve and show brotherly love to those who are in the body of Christ. And may we be a light of hope to those who are in darkness around us.

Lord, thank you for another day to serve you!

It is in Your name I pray, the name of Jesus,
Amen
