Matt. 5: 13-20

Yes it's been a while since I've posted anything of real significance. I'm just one busy gal these days and my time on the computer has been really short and I haven't had that much time to really sit down and write.

Don't worry though, I'm moving slowly... ;)

Matt. 5: 13-20
" You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lamp stand; and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish , but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished.
Who ever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven."

First today I want to focus on the first part :

" You are the Salt of the EARTH; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men."

I've been really processing this passage and in my study I've learned several things about who I am suppose to be here on this EARTH. What my role is and why THESE passages are so important and should cause us all to stop and ask some questions.

There are scripture references that help us know what Jesus is talking about when he says Salt:

Mark 9: 50
" Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves , and be at peace with one another."

Peace is a quality of Salt in our life and it is used in our relationships.

Col. 4:5- 6
"Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each other. "

Let our words be full of grace; why? So that we may KNOW how we should respond to each other.

The scripture says : " You are the salt of the earth"

Can you stop and think about that for just one moment. God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has called us out to be disciples and in doing that He has appointed us Salt of the Earth. In our lives, through our speech we bring peace and grace to men in the hope that we might preserve them.

Salt is a known preservative. It not only flavors but it also preserves. I don't think we / I take our CALL our WALK our LIFE here on earth as SERIOUSLY as we ought. We are not to just live for ourselves. We are SLAVES to CHRIST. WHY? SO that we might bring men to a saving knowledge of Our LORD and SAVIOR.

Salt in the GREEK is : HALAS- it brings: flavor, fertilizes, preserves

In Col. 4:6 it talks of our speech to be seasoned with GRACE and WISDOM.

This past week and in the weeks to come: I want to challenge you to think on how you are seasoning those around you. Are you being used to preserve to flavor to fertilize?
How are you dealing with people? How are you handling yourself in the presence of others? It isn't just for the sake of the Lost that we ought to be salt in the earth but it is also for the sake of the saints and for ourselves.

one commentary said it this way: " to be saltless (to loss your saltiness- be without grace, peace and wisdom) is to be graceless and nothing will make him profitable."
Coffman commentary said; " Salt preserves against corruption and ruin"

It is important to note what happens when one becomes tasteless.

" It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men."
I hope this week as you go about your day you are made aware of how you are the SALT of the EARTH!

Here is something to chew on: Matt. 12:33-37 in my bible the heading is " Words reveal character" If in Matt. 5:13 the word is stating that through our speech grace, peace and wisdom are used to bring others to Christ- that in essence our speech has the power to bring them to a Saving Knowledge of CHRIST - the Preservative if you will. Then it makes sense to say that based on Matt. 12:33-37 that we can actually identify the SALTY and the SALTLESS by their speech then where does that leave you or I? Are you Salty or Saltless?

You / I being disciples, children of our Lord, are meant to be salt in this world and in this we have a part of bring true peace, grace and wisdom of our Lord and savior to the Lost and to the body of Christ - There are so many scriptures that come to my mind about how we ought to handle ourselves in our speech and that we need to be able to give account of the hope within us.. That It is a sobering thought to realize that I need to tame my tongue... as James writes in James 3: 6-12.

Lord - I have taken for granted so much. Lord forgive me for the times I've not been salt to the earth. I pray that as I go about my day that I would be mindful of how I speak and that I would be intentional to be someone who speaks with grace and peace and wisdom. May what I say and do draw men to You rather than push them away from You.

Lord thank you for making me salty and using us your Children here on earth. May we be found Salty and full of flavor....
It is in Your mighty name I pray,
The Name of JESUS,
Amen................
