I had to break up my post because it was just so much and I didn't want you to miss the Song of Moses... that was just a cool thing the Lord did to provide a way for the People of Israel to never forget all He had done for them!
So today let's jump into the rest of Judges 2
Judges 2:11-23 God’s Faithfulness
Here is the cycle of sin. We know that Israel did not obey the angel of the Lord and as a result they failed in taking possession of the land that was promised them, they did inhabit it but they failed to do as the Lord commanded. Many were captives, prisoners, even slaves in their own land.
Take notice of the sin:
• “Did evil in the sight of the Lord”
• “Served the Baals”
• “Forsook the Lord and all he had done for them and their fathers”
• “Followed other god from among the gods of the people who were around them”
• “Bowed themselves down to those gods”
Ladies,
When the Lord leads us to do something like go and take the land I’ve promised you and your fathers before you. Weren’t you a little surprised at the number of tribes that didn’t obey the Lord their God? They didn’t though and they were disobedient to the command of the Lord. As I read chapter 2 these things stuck out to me and I really think as believers and followers of Christ now we can learn from their mistakes and learn more how the Lord disciplines those He loves. This is pretty cool!
1. Command: When God leads or gives us a command/task
• We need to trust the Lord to do as He promised
• Deut. 7:9 “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
2. Covenant: God has promised that He will be Faithful to do as He promises
• Deut. 31:8 “ And the Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or be dismayed.”
• For Israel, God made a Covenant with them and he gave them a plan told them what was expected and all they needed to do was ?
3. Make a Choice: Obey the Lord or Disobey and suffer the consequences
• Their choice was to disobey
• I found this interesting, only the tribes of Judah and Simeon were obedient to follow the command of the Lord and only once were they not able to cast the people out. But for the most part, these two tribes were successful to do the Will of God and God was faithful to do His part.
4. Judgments: These were meant to bring Israel back to a right relationship with the Lord their God
• God did not fulfill promise because they were disobedient. Vs 12 says “ thus they provoked the Lord to anger”.
• Judges 2:16-17
5. Mercy: The Lord had mercy on the people and in their suffering
• “ and when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days o the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them.”
• Even when they deserved their own punishment, God stepped in and had mercy. He truly is a God of second chances.
• Judges 2: 18-20
• Today is the day! If you or I are walking contrary to what we know to be truth to turn and say no more. To chose to follow after the things that are of God to do His will rather than ours.
6. Testing:
• I found this interesting. God was moved to anger and punished the people for their disobedience, he also had mercy and provided a way for them to overcome. By giving them judges to guide them out of their misery and to lead them to do what is right. However, the Lord also used their circumstances to test them to see if they would keep the way of the Lord.
• Judges 2: 21-23
Ladies, What has Judges 2 taught you? Are you in the cycle of sin and is God reaching down to turn your Heart back to Him? Might you be experiencing God’s mercy? Turn away from what ever it may be that is keeping you from having the right relationship with the Lord and be obedient!
Lord, I come before you and pray for my sisters that Lord you would put a song in their hearts of the things you have done for them, how you have lead them, how you have provided and saved them. Lord let this song be a song that will lead others to you! I pray lord that we would walk in obedience to what you Call us to do. What you lead us to do according to your plan , your purpose, your will!
I pray for them to trust you at your word, that they would know you are a faithful and just Lord.
It is in Your name I pray,
The Name of Jesus,
Amen………….
