I am sorry that it has taken me so long to get this on line. I was having some problems getting this to post this past week.
I wanted to share how the Lord really taught me about walking in truth. I personally think that it is from our personal experiences with our Lord that testify to His amazing power and love for us all. So, if from my mistakes others can learn, then that is what I desire!
I do pray that you will be challenged to evaluate things in your life that you know are areas that need to be worked on or even weeded out and that you will not delay on letting the Lord Prune them back!
Blessings to you all~
From Assumptions to Understanding~
I use to be a person who assumed things and was someone who made many assumptions. The Lord showed me this about myself when we first started to work among our people. We were just getting a team and I was for the first time being looked at as a leader. Of course my husband was the boss but we worked together as a team. One day as my husband and I were talking about our new folks that were joining our team I was making many assumptions about them based on what I had seen and heard from them. However, there really was no real concrete TRUTH to any of these ASSUMPTIONS. I use to say it was: Discernment, oh how the enemy can deceive us into thinking we have a “gift”. Well, anyway, I was going on and on about my assumptions. (Before I go on I should say in this case it wasn’t anything bad actually it was good stuff. My husband looked at me and said, "Melissa what facts are you basing this assumption on"? Later on he came back to me and said, " I don’t want to hear you talk like that again because it is wrong to make assumptions without any reasons behind it even if it was good and especially when it is bad".
I actually took offense as most of us do when we are confronted with someone who has been offended by our actions. However, in this case I was shocked that my husband was calling this “discernment” into question because it was all good stuff.
That was the beginning of my search for what the Word says about assumptions and from my study on assumptions the Lord showed me how I too, presume and make presumptions about things and people. I found that I would do this when I couldn’t figure out the WHY’s to things or maybe I was trying to come up with ways to use people and I wasn’t relying on the Lord to lead and guide my thinking process. To fill in the blanks of my understanding I would make presumptions and assumptions about situations, people, circumstances, and anything thing else I couldn’t fix.
Why am I sharing this? To say that as I continued on the journey of learning what it means to be Christ Like, I found how unchrist-like I was, based on;
1 John my actions were very anti-Christ. Even when my intentions were good. They were contrary to the Word. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t just assume and make presumptions about things in a good light but I also thought the worst of people too.
I began digging in the word, seeking TRUTH, realizing my wrongful thought patterns, correcting them by memorizing scripture, praying about situations I didn’t understand, seeking the Lord on my face and confessing my lack of understanding and do you know what happened?
I began changing!
I really was changed by how the Lord used my husband to show me I needed to take a deeper look at how my thought patterns and my speech needed to be changed. The Lord gave me this word and used it to help me see how my thoughts need to be different.
“ Through presumption comes nothing but strife, but with those who receive counsel is wisdom” Prov.13:10
I replaced my desire to have understanding with God’s understanding and I memorized :
Prov. 3:3-7 “ Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of our heart. So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. “
In the past I would listen to messages preached and go oh yeah that is me. I need to work on that but, Ladies, I was like the man who looked in the mirror and saw his true picture but when I turned away, I forgot immediately what I saw in the mirror. How often does the Holy spirit lay something out that you need to change and we take a moment to think about it but we don’t actually take action to change it? I found that I was doing this a lot. I think the Lord uses us even with our warts and all but how much more could He use us if we really desired to be Christ Like.
I really believe this is one of the many principles that John is trying to get across to us all. If we are His children, then there needs to be some growing and maturing.
I can honestly say that I have pulled the root of “Presumption and Assumptions” out of my life. When I start to presume things the Holy Spirit uses the Word to straighten my path. It isn’t to say that I doesn’t try to grow again. I think the enemy tries to plant that weed in my life often but I am aware of it and I know how to root it up when it begins to grow!
Walk in TRUTH. To do what is in the Word which; Christ says, “Abides in Him because He abides in those who abide in Him.” John 15
What are some areas that you are struggling to walk in the TRUTH!
Is there something in your Life that is preventing you from WALKING In the TRUTH, which will also keep you from Loving in Truth.
Do you know that my assumptions kept me from Loving(AGAPE) some of the most precious people in my life. When I rid myself of the assumptions, I found I had deeper love for them because my assumptions were not causing strife.
Lord, I pray You would use your Word to change and convict us of our wrong thoughts and our wrong behaviors. I pray Lord that in us you would continue to prune those things away and that we would become more Christ like in our lives. Lord we love you and desire to be used by you!
Thank you Lord for the days we have to serve you! Thank you for choosing us.
I ask these things in your precious name,
The Name of Jesus
amen
