Judges Chapter 1

Judges : chapter 1

As I studied chapter one there were several questions that came to my mind.

1. I needed to know why so many of the Tribes failed to overtake their enemies when the God had promised them the land?
2. My thought was Lord, what is there in this chapter for me today? What can I learn from those who have gone before me?

Let me share what the Lord showed me. I hope you too will share what He is teaching you as He reveals it through the reading of His Word.

Deut. 7:1-11;16 . the key verses for me were : 9-11
"Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love him and obey His commands. But he does not hesitate to punish and destroy those who hate him. therefore, obey all thee commands , laws and regulations I am giving you today."

when I read Deut. I realized that God is faithful , keeps His promises with those who love and obeys His commands.

Israel had been given this promise and as they went into the land of the Canaanites they knew to be successful that they just needed to love and obey all that the Lord their God had commanded them.

so what is the lesson we can learn from this :

Today just reflect on what the Lord has called you to do? What is the task? Are you walking in Obedience to what He has called you to?

Ex. 23:20-33
key verses: 21-22.
the Israelites were given the gold ticket. They had all that they needed to go into the land they had been promised by God and to overtake the people of the land. However, many of the tribes of Israel failed to overtake the people of the land. This verse is KEY to understanding why?

This passage caused me to ask some other questions like: Does this mean that when I'm not successful in something I know the Lord has called me too that I'm not walking in obedience? Or that I'm not obeying all his commands? What does this imply?

For me the Lord spoke to the Follow aspect. The Israelites were told to follow the Angel of the Lord and not to go against him. I took some time to just sit and think about this.

In Judges chapter 1 it was clear from the beginning that the Tribe of Judah and Simeon were walking in obedience and were faithful to do all that the Lord commanded them. They were successful and took the land that was promised them. Other Tribes were not so successful.

I have experienced this in my life for sure. I know there have been times that I've been called to do something by the Lord and instead of waiting for Him to move and lead I jumped right in and tried to do it in my own strength. Sometimes I forget that I can do nothing without Christ. I'm pretty arrogant that way but over these past 3 years the Lord has been teaching me through several failed attempts at what I think He's called me too that I've been walking in obedience but the problem is that I've been doing it in my own strength. Who gets the glory then?

So, for me this week- two truths have been revealed.

1. My God is faithful and He keeps his promises with those who love and keep His commandments
2. That I need to wait on the Lord and walk In HIS STRENGTH not my own- What He calls me to, He will Lead me in!

Oh, Lord,

Help us to walk according to Your ways not our own. Help us to be patient to wait on You and to follow after You when we see You at work give us Strength to walk in Your ways!
Today Lord, I pray that we would all remember that You are Faithful and Lord that you do keep your promises.

I pray this in Your precious Name
The Name of Jesus,
Amen..........................
