1 John 2: 25-29

1 John 2:25-29

“And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.”

“And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.”

As I read these portions of scripture and putting it into the context of the first half of chapter two and chapter one, I was again just challenged in how I live my life both in the public and in my private moments.

Verse 25 says “ And this is the promise which He Himself made to us; eternal life”
Who can not get excited about that kind of gift. Now that I’m 38 and I’m closing in on 40 which I truly do count as my half way mark in life here and now. I really do look at what I’m investing myself in and how I’m living my life. I think about what will this life of mine account for? Will it be seen as a life well lived, not just by my peers but more importantly by my Lord and Savior. What will He think? Will He say to me, “ Well done my good and faithful servant.”

The gift of Eternal life is not just realizing Death has no sting but it has a greater impact on me personally. It is realizing that I will have an eternity with my Lord and I desire and long to be found faithful not just here on earth but when I do meet face to face with Him.

Starting out this new year it has caused me to be reminded of what My Savior did for me and you. He has given me the most precious gift, the gift of eternal life! For that I have much to give thanks for but also much to do here and now.

Verse 28 “ and now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.”

this should truly make all of us more aware of our life, the way we live, what we say, and what we do with the many gifts, talents, and blessings.

Ladies, as we all begin this new year. My prayer for myself and for you is that you will walk in the Light of our Lord, that you will get good at loving and living just as Jesus was. My prayer is that you will look forward to this year and with each day ask yourself these questions:

Am I living a life that my Savior would be honored by?
Am I loving my brothers and sisters in Christ in such a way that the world around me sees that there is something different about me?
Am I walking in obedience to the things of Christ?

Lord, as we sojourn through this life on earth, I pray for us all that we would not walk blindly or haphazardly but rather we would be intentional and be dependant on you rather than our selves. Lord, help us to make every day count for You. Help us to live a life that will honor you and will draw people to you. Lord we desire to be found faithful at the end of our days here on earth. Help us to grow and be changed!

I pray this in Your Name,
the Name of Jesus!
Amen
