1 John 1:6 continued

1 John 1:6 : Continued~

Here are those questions we spoke about in the beginning:

Fellowship with Him?
Walk in Darkness?
We lie?
Practice the Truth?

Yesterday we talked about the question: Fellowship with Him?

1 John 1:6 says “if we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet we walk in the darkness; we lie and do not practice the truth.”

We talked about what Fellowship is and that it is having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It means that we change from having total control over ourselves to allowing Christ to be in control of our lives. It is being in Fellowship with God through His Son.

Today, we are going to look at the other questions:

Walk in the Darkness?

To walk in the darkness is to not walk in the light which is God.
Verse 5 said, “God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all.”
So if we say that we have fellowship with Him is it possible for us to walk in the Darkness? I think that is yes, but does it mean we can stay there? NO~ it is obvious that if we are a child of God we can not! Because the Word says, God is light and in HIM there is no darkness at all. That means for us to be in Right Fellowship with Him we can not be walking in Darkness. So, if we do walk in Darkness, it is a clear indication that we are not walking with Him. Our goal should be that we strive to always be walking in right fellowship with HIM.

We lie?

1 John 1:6 says “ if we say that we have fellowship in Him and yet we walk in the darkness; we lie……”
I found this to be very convicting. How many times have I started out my day with my quiet time ( we say that we have fellowship with HIM) and not 2 hours later( I’m clearly walking in darkness) I’m in a fit of frustration and anger and the things that come out of my mouth are not anything I would want to say again in front of the Lord. I’m clearly not walking in “right” fellowship with Him. I’m absolutely in the Darkness, where it is obvious HE is not! – My conviction comes because I know just how often these kinds of things happen and I’m being made aware of the importance of being the person I’m suppose to be, in Christ Jesus. It isn’t just enough that I’m His but I’m suppose to act like it too! *** This seems like a fundamental thing however, John felt the need to share it AGAIN so let us listen AGAIN! ***

Practice the Truth?

I posed it in this kind of question because I wonder how many of us really take the time to think about that very question. Practice the truth? What does it really mean to Practice the truth. The verse says, “ if we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet we walk in the darkness we lie and do not practice the truth.” I think we all get the statement - Do not Practice the Truth. But do we really get the question ,Practice the Truth?
I remember when our kids were learning these valuable lessons on telling the truth and learning what it means to be a child of Dwayne Hughes. I really wanted our kids to not just be Justin, Josh, or Kayla Hughes but to understand that they are CHILDREN OF : Dwayne and Melissa Hughes and that means something! There are expectations that come with being a child of ours. We began early training them and teaching them values that were fitting for a child of ours. Practicing the Truth was one of them. Being people of TRUTH! Being who we are not just in word but in our actions, it is important as well for us as : CHILDREN OF GOD- to walk in the light and to be people who practice TRUTH!

Ladies, this is our lesson for the day!

Learning to walk in right fellowship with our Lord, not just in word but also in deed. SO that not only our language communicates who we are but also our actions!

Lord I pray for the ladies that they would live as your children; as you have set them apart and called them into fellowship with You. That they would walk accordingly and that their speech would also be a reflection of who they are in YOU.
Help us Lord to be drawn closer to you in close fellowship! Lord may we not forget the message in 1 John 1:6 and I pray Lord that you would use this word to sharpen us and remind us of the importance of what it means to be in Fellowship with You and to be a Child of God!

Lord, walk with us today!
It is in your name I pray!
The Name of Jesus!
Amen……………..
