2 Corinthians 5
I love reading old bibles I’ve owned over the years. Today, I opened up one of those and read from it 2 Corinthians 5. It was a bible that was given to Dwayne and I when he was ordained. It is one that we have shared over the years and has notes from us both in it. What a treasure! As I read it I couldn’t help but notice the lessons we both were taught when we were reading it so many years ago. How cool it is to remember and think about how often I’ve read this chapter and how often the lessons that the Holy Spirit chooses to teach me are different every time.
I pray today that the Holy Spirit would teach us all something new and refreshing as we read Chapter 5.
“Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5: 6-8
Today, as I reading this chapter this is where I found myself going back to over and over again. There is such hope and confidence in these verses. It is where I feel I need to just linger, if you will for the day!
So often we get caught up in our circumstances and sufferings. It is hard for me at times to take my eyes off of the present. Today is different, I really want to spend the day just praying and thinking on these verses. Ladies when was the last time you were faced with a situation that you stopped and before acting or reacting you thought to yourself these 3 verses. Therefore, I (Melissa) am always confident, knowing that while I am at home in the body I am absent from the Lord. For I walk by Faith, not by sight. I am confident, YES, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. How would my attitude be in any given situation? Would I be more mindful of my position? Yes, indeed I would. I would realize even more the changes that need to occur in my body here on earth so that when I am face to face with my Lord, I will not be ashamed but rather have pleasure in being in his Presence.
Today, I am going to commit these verses to memory.
“Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
Paul writes and in this verse I really feel says so much !
We are always confident!
We have been bought with a price, sealed with the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. While we are a at home in the body ( this earthly vessel) we are truly absent from the Lord. While we may not be in his presence now we do have the confidence of one day being caught up and taken to Him. What a CONFIDENCE we have!
We walk by faith, not by sight.
As believers in Christ we understand that if we are truly going to follow after Christ we are going to have to walk by faith. We can walk by faith because we have experienced His Faithfulness. We know he is able to do what he wills. His faithful!
We should be looking with confidence and even excitement to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
I don’t always feel this way. There are days I just long for that presence and then there are other days I think Please Lord, not today, it’s been just awful and I don’t think you would be pleased. The awesome thing about this is that I still have confidence and I do have excitement about being in His presence. Once we became believers it was just planted deep within us the desire to be reunited with Him.
Lord, may we be able to speak this and truly own it for ourselves. May I live this out in my daily life. May others be able to see my confidence and hope in this, my journey to meet you face to face. May I live today for you, Lord. May I not live for the moment, nor for the earthly pleasures and glory that will perish but may I live my life for eternity and for Your Pleasure, for Your Glory!
I pray this in your name,
Amen!
