1 Corinthians Chapter 5 ~ Friday!
What a week! Ladies, Paul has really been hitting it hard trying to get the Corinth Church to see their lack of discipline in many areas. He so wants them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling and to not just walk as merely babes in Christ but to take seriously their position in Christ. To realize that they are not just men but now they are called out, with purpose, they are the temple of God, that they have reason to act differently. WOW!
Have you seen immorality in a church? Do you understand what Paul means when he writes in verse 2 " You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who has done this deed would be removed from your midst." ?
what about those who have said, " we need to love them and help them" ? What do you think?
I think this opens discussion about church discipline but I'm not going to go into that here :) .
Paul talks clearly about what should have been done and how this situation should have been dealt with. So many times I think as the Body of Christ we feel we need to show more "grace, mercy and love" to those in the church and less to those of the lost world.
Paul makes it clear as to where the grace, mercy and love should rightly be and it isn't given to the one who lives in sin who claims to be a "so called brother".
Verses 3-5 Paul sets the example by standing firm and leading out with what needs to happen to the one who is walking in sin openly in the church.
Verses 6-13 is my challenge for today:
verse 8 " Therefore let us celebrate the feast , not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. "
Lord, today I pray for the ladies that they would clean out the old leaven in their midst. That they would take note to not associate with "so called believers" who are living openly in sin.
I pray Lord, that they would deal rightly with those individuals and that they would show love by speaking truth to the situation and that with all sincerity they would deal with those individuals.
Lord, if "we" are the unleaven, I pray your Holy Spirit would convict us of any sin in our own lives.
I pray Lord, that You would " clean out the old leaven so that you (we) may be a new lump, just as you (we) are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed."
Lord Grow us and change us this week as we meditate on Your Word!
I pray these things in the name of our Lord ,Jesus Christ
amen.................................
