Matthew 2

Matt. 2: 1-12
King of the Jews

Herod hears about the news that there has been born a boy child who is being called, “ King of the Jews”. He becomes concerned and gathers together all the chief priests and scribes of the people. He wants to know where this boy child is and who he is. In verses 7-12 Herod calls the magi for a secret meeting. He asks them to go and find this “king of the Jews” and then report back to him. He even acts like he too wants to worship this “king of the Jews.”

Here is the key point that I think is so applicable to our lives. When God is at work in us and in our lives there are always others who want to stop or interrupt what is happening. Most of the time it is jealousy and power that causes problems.

I’m sure if you stopped to think about any given situation in your life where you were walking with the Lord and there was something exciting happening that often times we will experience an individual or individuals who come in and try to cause problems. I know in my life and in my walk with the Lord this has happened more times than I can count.

So then what can we learn from the Magi’s example and from Joseph’s example? They sought God and when He spoke they obeyed. I wonder what AMAZING things would happen in all our lives is if we stopped trying to figure things out ourselves but went directly to the Lord and sought His leading. I wonder if he would begin speaking to us as he did back then, through dreams. Either way, one thing is certain, God is faithful to His word and His plan won’t be thwarted. So we need to remember this and stay on course.

Here is the point that I think is worth listening to and following after.

Matt. 2: 12
When the magi departed from King Herod, it says : “ And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their own country by another way. “ The magi were not fooled or deceived when they encountered king Herod. They must have discerned his deception. Then when God spoke to them in a dream they obeyed.

I love how God spoke to these men and women in Dreams.

Verses: 16-23 Herod becomes angry and has decided to kill all the male children who were born during the time the Star appeared in hopes of killing this child known as the “ King of the Jews”.

Prophecy was fulfilled and this is important because we need to be reminded often that God’s promises never fail.

Today as you reflect on Chapter 2 it is just a great reminder for us all that there are men and women who are being used to thwart the will of God. However, we need to realize that NO MAN CAN DO THIS! We must be walking in such a way that we are able to hear the voice of our LORD and then walk in obedience to Him.

Lord, we just thank you so much for how you care for us. Thank you for how you lead us and direct our paths. I pray that as we walk through today that we would be alert and mindful of where You are at work and that we would go to where You are and begin working along with You.

It is in Your Name I pray
The Name of Jesus,
Amen………………
