"Finally, my brothren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you. Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision; for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,"
When I read this chapter I was drawn back to these first 3 verses. I've been pondering and processing the line between teaching Truth and False Teaching. I have always thought it was pretty clear to me until "convictions" of some have caused me pause to think more on this topic of False Teaching. This is what I have believed in the past about false teaching and truth; "The difference is when scripture is being misinterpreted and truth is then falsely being presented as TRUTH". I believe this is a good start to understanding False Teachings.....
Paul starts Chapter 3 with a warning for us to beware of 3 kinds of people:
1. "Beware of the dog"
2. "Beware of the evil workers"
3. "Beware of the false cicumcision"
Today, I just thought, Lord you are so amazing! It is no mistake that I've been dealing with this issue because He has a desire to teach me something. So, please bear with me as I begin to dig and study this topic more thoroughly. I'll be stuck here for a while until I have come to a Clear understanding of what the Scripture says about False Teaching and what my response needs to be as a Believer in Christ.
I would ask that you please share any words of wisdom or understanding with me. This is open sharing time! So Please don't be silent if you read something and you have insight or thoughts on the matter. I would value your sharing with me...
I'm going to stop here for today..... Sometimes I just need to spend a day in prayer when things like this come up. I want to REALLY guard against "my own interpretation of the Scripture"- I want God's meaning not mine.
So, Lord, I come before You asking that You reveal TRUTH to me. I pray that as we study more in Philippians and other scripture that You would direct us to a clear interpretation of what You meant by "false teaching". Lord, in Your word it says that in the latter days some will fall away from such things as false teaching. Lord I don't want to be found vulnerable in this area and I desire to know my Shepherd's voice. So, Lord REVEAL Your truth to me.
I pray this in Your Son's name,
The Name of Jesus,
Amen
