The mind is an interesting thing, don't you think? I mean we can process so much information so quickly and come up with answers and solutions in just moments. And our eyes, wow what an amazing thing that we can actually see things. Some how our minds process what our eyes see and we come up with a word that gives the pictures we see, meaning. Astounding!
Hands, each one has 5 long or stubby :) fingers and we are able to do some phenomenal things. I could list other spectacular things our bodies are able to do but these three are the areas of focus in Proverbs 16:1-3.
I have been really pondering this passage out of Proverbs for the about 2 weeks now. It just seems that the Lord keeps bringing these verses before me. So, I thought I would share them with you.
"We can gather our thoughts, but the Lord gives the right answers."
"People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives."
"Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed."
Proverbs 16:1-3
"We can gather our thoughts, but the Lord gives the right answers."
I have been in conversations where I have held my tongue and have just prayed, Lord, speak for me because what I have to say isn't what you would say. Have you? Well, I wish I could say that it was often the case but unfortunately I will speak first and then gather my thoughts. This is often the case when I am stressed out and or angry. The lord has really been making me aware of situations where I need to be more dependent on HIM for the right answers and not relying on my own knowledge and wisdom.
Today, take some time when the situation calls for it and just pause and have a talk with God, ask Him what the right answer would be. I bet we will all be amazed at how God will direct our thoughts and words......
"People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives."
This passage really reminds me that I need to come before the Lord and others and be real and honest. I can cover up and act or even shun people to make myself look right but the fact is that God our Lord and Savior examines us and knows the truth. I think this verse is really about being REAL, learning to be okay with faults, failures, sins and to confess them. I realized this with my husband one day as we were discussing something and he pointed something out about me and I immediately took the defense and pointed the finger back at him. I realized in that moment that I was living out Proverbs 16:2 I thought myself pure in my own eyes, but the truth was that the Lord knew my motives. I stopped right then and said to Dwayne, " you know you are right. I have been doing that a lot and I don't want to do that any more, I'm sorry. "
As believers we need to have an honest appraisal of who we are and realize we can not hide anything from GOD so why bother hiding it from people. This week I challenge you to just be REAL hard core REAL with yourself and with others. When they ask you how do you feel. Tell the honest truth and try being Pure of heart. You know Pure means : uncontaminated, unmixed, clarified, genuine. Begin today with being PURE in your own eyes and realize that God knows your motives so why not just be real. What about our motives? Motive is what drives us to do something. The reason we do an action. I think it very interesting that this passage actually goes to the ACTION part of who we are what really drives us to do what we do.
In the end you may be successful in hiding things from people but nothing can be hidden from our Lord.
"Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed."
This seems a lot easier than it is. This week, take the time to commit your work to the Lord- seek Him even in the smallest details. This is an area that I really need to work on. I tend to think okay the doors open so let's roll. But there are so many steps in getting the job done. Maybe if I took the time along the way to seek the Lord in every detail then my path wouldn't be so full of rocks or holes.
This week, as you go about your day and your work. Seek the Lord in the details!
Lord, thank you for Proverbs and the messages within this book. I pray first for myself that I would be changed by your word that I would not merely be a hearer but that I would be a doer. Lord, help us to seek you in our responses and our daily conversations, help us to be real and truly pure in our day to day life, help us lord to commit ourselves to you and our work may we seek you in the details. Grow us and change us- may we then seek to share You with others.
Lord, thank you for saving me and for using me even when I'm not very pliable...........
It is in Your Name I pray!
the Name of Jesus,
Amen...............
